“Oh, sorry, we can’t accept your application, since we are looking for a sincere candidate”, the HR cut the call abruptly.
Last week, Naman, one of my good friends, applied for the post of Graphic Designer in an IT company.
He was working as a freelancer for 5 years and had worked with companies all over the globe. His clients included some prominent media houses, advertising companies and a few TV broadcasting companies as well. However, because of a few personal reasons and to get more corporate exposure, he thought of resuming a full-time job to get more corporate exposure.
Last week, he received a call from HR of an IT company who was looking for a graphic designer.
Everything went fine until Naman mentioned that he had been working as a freelancer.
“We are looking for sincere candidates, as this is a full-time position”, HR quoted this line and cut the call, without even letting Naman speak anything further.
Yes, freelancers are not employed with a single organisation. Instead of working in 4×4 cubicles of a company, they prefer to work from the comfort of their homes or a co-working space. They don’t begin and conclude working in pre-fixed hours, rather they work during hours which suit them best.
However, none of these makes them any less dedicated, sincere or professional, than their peers working as employees.
Like every other worker who exists on this planet, freelancers also fully devote themselves to their work.
They spend countless hours, sleepless nights and work under tremendous pressure sometimes to handle the multiple responsibilities together.
Do you want the outer world to know the stories of your hustle and struggles in building a freelancing career? Write those stories using #RespectTheFreelancers on Opined.
Even when they are working as a freelancer, they have to manage multiple departments – sales, marketing, finance, HR, admin, sometimes even housekeeping also (if they are working from home!), which is time-consuming and drain the energy.
On weekends, when most employees chill out with their families or friends or rejuvenate themselves for the upcoming week, freelancers are still working, completing their projects, meeting new clients, attending networking events or spending time on upgrading their skills.
Just because freelancers don’t have bosses hovering over them doesn’t mean they are not loyal or professional. They report to their clients, get appraisals in the form of increased remuneration or client satisfaction and perform the task to the best of their ability.
Freelancers choose to freelance, not because they can’t get full-time jobs, but because, they want to be their own bosses and work with clients around the globe.
They work with people in various industries and domains and acquire hands-on experience and exposure to handle different mindsets and requirements.
So, the next time you come across a freelancer, don’t question his sincerity or dedication. In his short career, he might have an experience which an employee can’t earn in 10 years also.
As a freelancer, you must have come across these type of companies and people who doubted your credibility and commitment. Raise your voices high and let them know how much did they lose by not hiring you.
So, another five years under a despicable and narcissistic leader.
Yes, no respect of the person on the chair for me. I extended the courtesy (and congratulated him and his supporters) in 2014, but he’s not been worth it. There was a façade in 2014 and the pretension of a development agenda. None this time, and hence he got voted for his brand of communal, hateful politics.
His bigoted voters do not care about India and its institutions. The opposition did what it could (could’ve done better, of course) but it is hard to fight a despicable party with potty-mouth leadership with a hateful propaganda built on lies and terrific media manipulation.
Rahul Gandhi did well to fight his false character/personality assassination and the 2014 decimation and even came up trumps in media interactions or offering a progressive manifesto this time around. But Modi-Shah are too vile for normal men to fight. When a hatemonger Ananth Kumar Hegde or a terror-accused Pragya Thakur look set to win, you know what’s on voters’ minds.
I’ll just urge his followers to be open about it and not hide your bigotry under lofty terms like national security which they only learn about on WhatsApp. So, another five years of hell. Another five years of paid trolls and unpaid bigots hounding us on Twitter. Another five years of being ashamed of Modi’s chichhorapan.
But, fight we must. Resist we must. India is still not Modi. We’re bigger, and better. This election wasn’t won on issues… not on the promise of jobs, not on fighting agrarian distress, not on sinking economy. Hence, you’ll not see these addressed. Keep snorting the nationalism and revel in the muck around.
The dream of every White Hat Hacker and Bug hunter is to get Hall Of Fame Acknowledgment by World’s IT Giant Google. No introduction needed about Google. And so was my aim to get a place in Google’s Hall of fame and to qualify for their VRP which are only for Security Researcher. I started my Journey in White Hat quite a little back ago as I loved to crack Top Companies website in my free time and to break things for positive aspects.
Google being quite secured, required lots of Hard work and Dedication to making a way through it. Initially, before two months I reported a bug to Google, but unfortunately, it was a `Duplicate` though it was valid, but Duplicates are not considered Eligible either for Reward nor for Acknowledgment according to Google’s terms. So I researched and found out one more bug and reported it to Google, but bad luck hovered on my head, and it was also considered `Duplicate`.
Moreover, I again Hunted one more bug and Reported, but that was also a `duplicate` issue given by Google. I was sure that the bug could not be duplicated because it was quite a creative and had a more significant impact which Google couldn’t keep unpatch. But still, the thing didn’t escalate as Google were firm in their Decision. I had the following quote in Mind.
“Persistence can change failure into Extraordinary achievement.”
So, I reported these bugs to Google Security Team and kept my Fingers crossed, and the reply came in 5 Hours ?Blazing much. And this time a positive response and I sent some more information with video too and yes they fixed everything quick.
“Success is Not Final; Failure is not Fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.”
I genuinely thank the Excellent Security Team of Google and their quick response. There is nothing better than Google, and the feeling after getting acknowledged by Google is itself Immense. Would continue to keep Hunting on Google and helping their Web applications safe.! It’s like A dream come true.
